The Service Area Director, Clinical Documentation Integrity directs the activities of the CDI department, providing oversight and day-to-day implementation of processes related to concurrent review of clinical documentation in inpatient medical records across multiple hospitals. This role collaborates with providers and healthcare team members to improve documentation accuracy and completeness. Responsibilities include leading CDI operations across hospital systems in PA, MA, NY, managing ~15+ FTEs, driving performance through KPIs, partnering with hospital leadership, leading client-facing discussions, and developing CDI education initiatives. The position requires 4+ years CDI experience (acute inpatient), 2+ years leadership experience, and ability to travel 30-40%. Preferred qualifications include CCS certification and director-level CDI experience.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead CDI operations across multiple hospital systems
  • Manage ~15+ FTEs including direct and indirect reports
  • Drive performance through KPIs, analytics, and reporting
  • Partner with hospital leadership to improve documentation quality
  • Lead client-facing discussions, presentations, and escalations
  • Develop and execute CDI education initiatives for providers and staff
  • Oversee staffing, workflows, compliance, and program outcomes

What you bring
