Start where the door is widest

The first remote role is the hardest one to get, so pick the specialty with the shortest bridge from your current work rather than the one you eventually want. Utilization review, telephonic triage, and case management hire the most nurses directly from bedside, and all three treat acute-care experience as the core qualification.

Rewrite the résumé around judgment, not tasks

Clinical résumés tend to list duties. Remote employers are buying decision-making they cannot observe over your shoulder, so every bullet should show a judgment you made, the information you made it on, and what happened. Name the systems you have touched — Epic, MCG, InterQual — because those are what the résumé screen searches for.

The six weeks

1. Weeks 1–2: pick two target specialties and read fifty real postings in them. Write down the phrases that repeat — that is the vocabulary of the screen.
2. Week 3: rewrite the résumé against that vocabulary. One page per decade of experience.
3. Week 4: apply in volume to the specialties you chose, not broadly. Twenty targeted applications beat two hundred scattered ones.
4. Week 5: prepare for the criteria question and the workspace question — both come up in nearly every remote clinical interview.
5. Week 6: follow up on everything from week 4, and widen to adjacent titles.

What remote interviews actually test

• Whether you can reason out loud in a structured way, because that is how your work will be audited.
• Whether you will escalate rather than guess when a case is outside criteria.
• Whether you have a private, wired, HIPAA-appropriate place to work. Have a real answer.
• Whether you can sit with a queue. Say plainly that you know the work is repetitive.
